For Sustainable Business and Development

17th – 19th March, 2009

BACKGROUND

Under the current financial and economic crises many companies are being forced to revisit their business strategies both in developed and in developing countries, and in doing so, “sustainability” issues have become even more important. Increasingly, companies need to integrate their CSR activities into their core business strategy to remain competitive in the global economy. The “CSR for Sustainable Business and Development” program has been established jointly by the World Bank Instutute, Asian Management of Institute, and the Tokyo Development Learning Center to analyze the relevance and benefits of CSR activities as well as the connection between corporate strategy and development issues.

IMPACT

Key objectives of this program are to:

Raise awareness of and build capacity for CSR activities in the Asia-Pacific region

Stimulate high-level discussion on the role of CSR in supporting development through a video-conference seminar series connecting several Asian countries

Enhance public private partnership (PPP) in the implementation of CSR initiatives

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This is a three day video conference-based course that aims to stimulate participants’ thinking around the new role of business through high-level discussions, best practices and case studies on how effective and inclusive CSR strategies can enhance competitiveness of private corporations and, at the same time, contribute to the realization of sustainable business growth.

The program integrates both traditional and on-line teaching methodologies, including local workshops and video conferencing. Instructors will include professors from leading academic institutions in Japan and elsewhere in Asia, development experts from the World Bank and other international institutions, and business practitioners.
